Course Description
Assuming mid-winter conditions, over half your uphill and downhill course will be on BMOM backcountry. Uphills will be flagged green and downhills red. The Chisholm Ski Club hosts events from middle school alpine races to national cross country championships and they will run the race with times recorded at the top and bottom. Our event on February 10 will have three divisions: USSMA Open, USSMA U-20, and Recreational. Everyone races the USSMA sanctioned course.
Two thirds of the climb is on the Bagaduce, a cut trail that is part of BMOM backcountry. We will have the Bagaduce to ourselves.
Descents are chosen to highlight our challenging terrain and that means a heavy helping of glades: East Branch, The Wild, Beaver, Allagash Woods. These glades have been brought out of the mountain through thousands of volunteer hours by the Angry Beavers. The glades have predictable hazards like trees and rocks and unpredictable hazards. About half of the total descent is on BMOM backcountry glades.
